Additional NETGEAR WG111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (54 Mbps) Information

As home wireless networking continues to evolve, the need for increasingly faster speeds and greater range becomes more attractive. New applications like video-streaming, while not possible with 802.11b, are attainable at higher speeds, prompting users to seek the most powerful available solution for their networking needs. NETGEAR's WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter enables this. At 54 Mbps, it is up to 5x faster than 802.11b, and has greater range than 802.11b wireless products. The USB 2.0 interface allows the full throughput of 802.11g to be available, simply by plugging this into the external USB slot of your desktop or notebook PC. New antenna technology has increased range beyond what was ever possible with previous generation Wi-Fi adapters. Keep your network private with WEP encryption, upgradeable to even more secure WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Setup is now made quick and easy with our Smart Wizard install assistant. The WG111 has a compact pocket-sized casing and with the included 5 ft. USB cable, it can easily be placed anywhere near your computer for optimal signal strength for best performance.

What Customers Say About NETGEAR WG111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (54 Mbps):

This product is quite unreliable. I've had it only 8 days and it gets very hot and can't find the access point (in the next room) and the included software is quite unreliable with XP.

Installation was simple, but this device has not worked consistently well from the outset. Signal is OK but once or twice a week it simply quits working, forcing us to unplug and plug it back into the USB port. We put up with that inconvenience for several months until it quit working altogether. Do yourself a favor and find another product (as we are trying to do now).

It's no fun at all. this is the biggest piece of junk i've seen in my entire life. the range of this is poor and the speed just suck. this is the second time i've had a bad experience with a netgear product and from now on i'm avoiding it like plague. what a waste of money and time.

No, they force you to install their bloated and buggy configuration software which doesn't play well with Windows XP(apparently). I just spent hours of frustration trying to get this thing to work reliably. So, after much cursing and hair-pulling, I took it back and exchanged it for a comparable Linksys adapter. Never got it working correctly. Netgear won't just let you install the drivers and be done with it. Now all is right again in my universe. If you are looking for a USB wireless adapter, do yourself a favor and go back to the search page and type in L-i-n-k-s-y-s.

I have this wireless adapter, and it works fine. Sometimes it overheats within a matter of hours, but sometimes it will overheat within 15-30 minutes. when I am not uploading or downloading a lot of data. However, when I am doing so, it will constantly overheat. It can be very frustrating to constantly have to unplug it, let it rest (or stick it in the fridge), and then plug it in again. I am currently looking to replace it, which is frustrating because it was comparitively expensive when I bought it.
